Diversity Centre aims to provide a platform to address the misdiagnosis or lack of diagnosis affecting the culturally and linguistically diverse society of South Africa.
South Africa is a culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) society. This diversity presents a challenge in the assessment, intervention and support on related CLD population. The result has often been misdiagnosis, lack of diagnosis and or/ no intervention. The distinction between disorder and difference in speech, language and communication continues to present as a challenge with significant adverse repercussions.
There are avenues to address the disorder but no support for the difference.
The centre is run by Dr Thandeka Mdlalo.
